Study Purpose |
To investigate weight management strategies for teens struggling with excess weight. |
Study Design |
This study is being offered in conjunction with the YMCA of Greater Providence. If your child is eligible and takes part in this study, (s)he will be asked to attend one group meeting each week at either the Cranston or Kent County YMCA. The group meetings will focus on teaching teens how to track what they eat and how much they exercise, how to set goals, how to follow a specific nutrition plan, how to reduce "screen time", and how to increase physical activity. Some teens will be asked to attend a second session each week, during which they will exercise as a group. |
Study Requirements |
To be eligible for this study your teen must be overweight or obese (BMI > 85th%), between 13 and 17 years of age, and have one caregiver who is available to participate. For additional information about the study or to learn if your teen qualifies, please call us at 401-793-8945. |
Study Duration |
10-months total: 4 months of weekly meetings followed by 8 follow-up meetings. |
