Online 12-week behavioral weight loss program/span>

Study Type
Online 12-week behavioral weight loss program
Study Purpose
To test how different cognitive mindsets may impact food choices and weight loss in the context of an online weight loss program.
Study Design
Everyone enrolled in the study will participate in a 12-week behavioral weight loss program delivered via the Internet. If you are enrolled in the study you will be randomly assigned to one of the following three groups: 1) a group focusing on behavioral strategies for weight loss 2) a group focusing on behavioral strategies for weight loss and the long-term consequences of obesity, or 3) a group focusing on behavioral strategies for weight loss and the long-term benefits of avoiding obesity.
Everyone will attend an orientation to learn more about the study and decide if they want to participate, then there will be one individual assessment session scheduled at your convenience. Following that, we will kick off the weight loss program by having everyone from each group come in for one in-person training session when you will learn key strategies of your group and learn how to use the online weight loss program website. The remaining 12 weekly lessons will all be over the Internet. During the weight loss program we will work with you on developing healthy eating and physical activity behaviors via our online program. You will be given a calorie and physical activity goal and will be expected to record your weight, the number of calories you eat, and your physical activity on our study website. There will be one final assessment after you complete the 12-week weight loss program.

To be initially eligible for the study, you must be between 25 and 60 years old and overweight or obese. For more information on eligibility requirements, please call Tiffany Leblond at 401-793-9713.
