Behavioral weight loss program testing health coaches

Study Type
Weight loss treatment
Study Purpose
To compare different types of health coaches for weight loss
Study Design
Participants are randomly assigned to one of three group-based weight loss treatments: 1) behavioral weight loss alone, 2) behavioral weight loss plus peer coaching, or 3) behavioral weight loss plus mentor coaching. All participants will receive a state-of-the-art behavioral weight loss program led by our team of dietitians and exercise physiologists. During group meetings participants will receive a private weigh-in, evidence-based material on weight control, and personalized progress review and feedback. Participants assigned to the two coach conditions will also be coached either by a peer (another member of their weight loss group) or a mentor (a successful weight loser).
