Adolescent Weight Control Registry

Questionnaire and interview study to learn more about adolescent weight loss and maintenance.

Study Type
Combined survey and questionnaire study to identify strategies used by successful adolescent weight losers.
Study Purpose
The goal of this registry is to document the successful weight loss efforts of adolescents and young adults, with a focus on the individual, family, and contextual conditions that have helped to facilitate their weight loss and maintenance efforts.
Study Design
Adolescents will complete questionnaires and a brief interview regarding their weight loss experience. Parent participation is also encouraged, but not required. Similar to teens, parents who volunteer to participate will complete questionnaires and a brief interview about their teen’s weight loss experience. Adolescents and parents will be compensated for their time.
Study Requirements
Adolescents (ages 14-20) must have lost a minimum of 10 pounds as teenagers and maintained this weight loss for at least 1 year.
Study Duration
One-time completion of questionnaires (30-45 minutes) and a brief interview (approximately 30 minutes).
Study Benefits
Benefits to participants involved in the study include satisfaction in knowing that their experiences may help other adolescents lose and maintain weight loss. Furthermore, adolescents and parents may feel a sense of accomplishment in sharing their stories.
