Exercise and weight loss study

Study Type
Exercise and weight loss study
Study Purpose
To examine how feelings about exercise may differ between people who regularly exercise versus those who do not and how this may change following a 12-week, Internet-based weight loss program
Study Design
If eligible, you will be asked to attend a series of visits at the Weight Control and Diabetes Research Center, prior to the weight loss program. You will be asked to walk on a treadmill, answer surveys, and wear an armband to assess your usual physical activity. You will then receive a 12-week, behavioral weight loss program which will be delivered via the Internet. During this program, you will be asked to track your food intake, physical activity, and body weight daily and we will provide you with weekly video lessons to teach you the skills needed to change important weight-control behaviors. Following the weight loss program, you will be asked to complete another exercise session, answer surveys, and wear a physical activity monitor for one week. You will be compensated for assessment visits and the weight loss program is provided at no cost to you.
Study Requirements
To be eligible, you must be between the ages of 18 and 60, be overweight, and have regular access to the Internet.
Study Duration
16 weeks
Study Benefits
You will receive a 12-week Internet-based, behavioral weight loss program which will provide you with tools and knowledge for improving eating and exercise habits. You will also be compensated for completing assessment visits.
